Wausau School District

Mrs. Akey

Introduction

I currently work at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School as a Mathematics Interventionist.  This is my second year at Jefferson, but I have been in the Wausau School District for eleven years. Within the district, I have taught both 6th and 7th grade math at Horace Mann, as well as, English/Language Arts in 7th grade. When I first joined the district in 2007, I taught at the Wausau Area Montessori Charter School. After graduating college, I spent 7 years teaching 7th grade mathematics in the Racine Unified School District.

Education History

After graduating from Wausau West High School, I spent my first two years of college at UWMC. Then, it was off to UW-Stevens Point. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Mathematics Education. Next, I went on to graduate school at Carthage College in Kenosha. There I earned my Masters Degree in Teacher Leadership and Reading. The summer of 2007 I spent in St. Paul, MN at St. Catherine University earning my Montessori license.  I continue to attend workshops, conventions, and take college courses to further my love and knowledge of teaching and learning.

Personal Information

I am married to a wonderful man and we have two beautiful children. They are 9 and 7 years old. We have many family members who live in the Wausau area.

I am an active member of my church and I enjoy teaching Sunday School to the second and third graders.  I enjoy the outdoors: hiking, biking, swimming, skiing, kayaking, and more. When I have time, I love to travel and to rubber stamp with my friends.

The best way to contact me is through email ([email protected]). If you need to call (715-261-0175) or come to Jefferson for a meeting, I am usually available from 7:45 - 8:30 AM.
