Ms. Ackerman

Welome to Ms. Ackerman's web page!  Often when I am out and about in the community, people ask me what grade I teach.  I am an English as a Second Language Teacher at G.D. Jones Elementary.  I am grateful to say that I have the priviledge of working with grades K-5 at the elementary level in English language and reading instruction.  I have been enjoying teaching English as a Second Language for over 20 years in the district.  I graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point with a bachelors in Music Education.  After returning from the Peace Corps in Tunisia, North Africa, I returned to UWSP for a second round of my Master's Degree in General Education, with an emphasis on teaching reading.  I am certified to teach in three different areas, Instrumental Music Education, English as a Second Language and Reading.

Some other noteworthy things about me are that I have a passion for teaching students how to write and perform their own plays, (see digital examples of the PlayWrite's Workshop).  I have never left my joy of music because my main hobby outside of school is playing jazz clarinet out in the community, and I enjoy volunteering for various local performing entities like the Grand Theater.
