Greetings parents and guardians. My name is Ms. Anderson, and I will be serving the Grant and John Marshall families this year as the art teacher. In my role, I will be teaching art to students in kindergarten through 5th grade at Grant Elementary on days 1,4, & 5, and at John Marshall Elementary on days 2 &3.

A little about me, I am from Eau Claire Wisconsin originally, which is a community quite similar in feel to Wausau, with a love of the Arts,  growing diversity and industry, and lovely nature and wildlife. In my free time I love reading books, watching movies, making lots of different kinds of things, and spending time in nature. I received my Bachelors degree in art education form the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire with a minor in art history. Prior to joining the Grant and John Marshall teams, I served as the art program summer staff at the Boys and Girls Club of Black River Falls; as a substitute teacher k-12 for the Eau Claire, Fall Creek, and Osseo Fairchild school districts; and as a summer school teacher in Milwaukee for the Center for Urban teaching. I have had the opportunity to teach a variety of things in many settings and at many age levels, but my favorite, and where my passion and heart is, is elementary art in community schools like Grant and John Marshall elementary!

I am so excited to work with you wonderful children this year! As an art teacher I will share my creativity with each of your children, and to empower them to develop their own. In the art room students will learn to express themselves creatively and be able to talk about their creative expression. They will learn how to appreciate and talk about the expression of others. They will develop skills as critical thinkers and creative problem solvers. During each year in art your children will have opportunities to deepen their understanding of a variety of art making mediums and techniques, learn about a diverse group of historical and contemporary (current) artists, learn about the connections between art and other school subjects, and learn about the many different art careers available to them some day.

The famous artist Pablo Picasso said, “Every Child is an artist!” I truly believe this statement, and hope to help you and your children believe this too.
