Dr. Shannon Young

I am a self-professed lifelong learner.  Working with students, families and the amazing team at EEA is a tremendous joy.   Years ago, I thought I would be a school counselor when I grew up.  My path has taken some interesting turns that have led me to my current role at EEA.  I have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, a Master's Degree in School Counseling and a Doctorate in Leadership for the Advancement of Learning and Service.

Along this path I have worked on family partnerships and drug and alcohol prevention at the community level through a grant program called Free To Grow and then through Drug Free Communities.  I then became an advisor at New Horizons (the starter of our current charter school, EEA).  I served in the role of an advisor for 6 years, 5 of those as a lead teacher.  I also served as the counselor over all three charter schools for one year.  In July of 2013, I assumed the role of principal of EEA Learning Academy.  I hold a dual role of principal and counselor which provides me with the best of both worlds!

EEA is an incredible environment to work and learn in.  The individualized educational experience, mastery based learning, small school family feel, and strong core values are just a few of the things I love about EEA.  The team is unbelievably dedicated and constantly goes above and beyond for the good of our students.  It is a privilege to lead such a rigorous, yet caring environment.  Our mission truly is to promote student success by providing a learner-centered education built on the formation of trusting relationships.

On a personal level, I am a mom of two girls who are in their early 20s and working on their career goals.  We always have multiple pets to love, one of them might even have her own Instagram!  I enjoy family time, photography, reading, writing, and traveling.  One of my favorite places to be, outside of EEA, is the beach!
