Wausau School District

Mrs. Yer Thao

My name is Yer Thao.  I am a University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and a minor in English Language Learners (EL).

I started my career in the Wausaus School District in June of 2012 as one of the reading intervention teachers for the Camp School Forest middle school tranisition program for 5th graders.  In August of that same year, I was hired as one of the EL teachers at Hoarce Mann Middle School.

Over the last couple of years, I tranisitioned from being an EL teacher/interventionist to teaching both basic and core sections for English and Language Arts (ELA) at the 6th grade level.  In the 2017-2018 school year, I also trained as a Read 180 teacher and have been running two sections of this program with several co-teachers for three years now.

At the start of the 2014-2015 school year, I also became a member of the Response to Intervention (RtI) committee.  Some of the responsibilities that I hold as a part of this committee include educating staff members about progress monitioring students using the AIMSweb program, screening and placing students into ELA interventions, and analyzing student data for next school year's placements.

I also added the role of EL department chair to the many hats I already wear during the 2016-2017 school year.  Through this role, I advocate and provide a voice for students who do not have English as a first language.

Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with family, travelling to new places, and reading as many books as I can.

Please feel free to connect with me anytime through email or by phone if you have any questions or concerns.

I look forward to hearing from you!
